Irish Tune for brass quintet - cover
  • Irish Tune from County Derry

    SKU: BBBQ880505

Arranged here for brass quintet, Irish Tune from County Derry is an ancient and popular wordless folk tune also known as Londonderry Air. Percy Grainger borrowed the tune for his setting from the 1855 publication The Petrie Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland.

It has been set many times, but perhaps most famous is Grainger's own version for military band. Grainger's original setting for piano was composed a decade before the lyric Oh Danny Boy was ascribed to the tune.
