Johann Hermann Schein (20 January 1586 – 19 November 1630) was a German composer of the early Baroque era. He was born in Grünhain and died in Leipzig. He was one of the first to import the early Italian stylistic innovations into German music, and was one of the most polished composers of the period.

"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy" is one of numerous Psalm Settings made by Johann Schein for five voices and are lovely examples of late renaissance counterpoint. This setting is of Psalm 126, verses 5 - 6.

Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
He who goes out weeping, bearing seed for sowing
will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.
