Johannes Brahms' 3 Intermezzos, Op. 117 are among his most poignant late works, characterized by their intimate, introspective nature. Brahms himself famously referred to them as the "Cradle Songs of my Sorrows" (Wiegenlieder meiner Schmerzen).
Michael Allen, the founder and artistic director of the Boulder Brass, has adapted these solo piano masterpieces for a professional-level 11-piece brass ensemble. These arrangements translate the rich textures of Brahms' piano writing into the warm, resonant colors of a large brass group.
